Who Is Doing the Asking?
By Allison Hipps

It’s a little embarrassing to admit, but I would not describe myself as a generous person. Much of my day is spent doing what I call resource management. I’m constantly trying to make it to the end of the day with enough—enough energy, enough money, enough time, enough patience.
At the core of it all is a fear of not having enough. Maybe you feel that way too.
Knowing this about myself, it surprised me to realize that much of what God has been asking of me in 2026 feels like more than I have to give. And yet, I wasn’t overwhelmed by fear. As I prayed through this tension, the Holy Spirit brought to mind a verse that clarified exactly what was happening:
Philippians 2:13
“For it is not your strength, but it is God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”
In that moment, I understood something important: what was being asked was not too much, because I was not the one doing the asking.
When God is the One who asks, He is also the One who strengthens, energizes, and creates within us both the desire and the ability to fulfill His purposes. What feels impossible in our own strength becomes possible when God is the source.
When our giving—of time, resources, obedience, or trust—is done for the Lord, we will never truly run out. He does not ask without supplying. We can be generous without fear because our God will never run dry.
Something to Pray
Thank You, Lord, for the opportunity to show my trust in You by being generous, even when it feels like too much. Open my eyes to see Your faithfulness as I obey.
Something to Do
What has the Lord been asking of you that you have hesitated to act on out of fear that it would cost too much? A phone call. Taking something on. Letting something go. Giving the money. Staying quiet—or being the one to speak up.
Bring it honestly before the Lord and ask: Is this You asking, or is it me? If it is Him, be ready to obey generously.
