“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” - Philippians 2:3-4
All of us form opinions about various things in life, such as the way a ministry should operate, how people should act, and what is appropriate in different areas of the church. These opinions are often shaped by our experiences, whether they were positive or negative. Using these experiences, people become convinced that their thoughts and feelings on a particular topic are accurate and cannot be debated. Some in our Christian family will not accept other opinions that contradict theirs on matters not clearly outlined in scripture causing conflict.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, we must remain open to the opinions of fellow believers, especially when working on a team or in a group. Sharing opinions through open dialogue fosters an environment which prevents us from focusing on our “own interests.” Everyone brings a unique and valuable perspective to the discussion. The best solution, given by God, may come as a combination of multiple opinions or ideas from the group.
This week, we encourage you to join us in praying for the team to have humility during discussion times in order to hear from one another, consider each idea or opinion shared, and the ability to have thoughtful, respectful discussions. Also, we ask the church to pray in humility for God’s will to be done for Sagemont Church.
