Prayer for our New IMB President

In case you have not heard, the trustees of our SBC International Mission Board elected David Platt, (Pastor of the Church at Brook Hills and the author of the New York Times Best Seller Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream) to serve as president.

Our church has been praying for a long, long time that the right person would be elected. Generations have given sacrificially to build this great denomination. As a result, we have the largest and best mechanism for Gospel cooperation that can be found. Thus, our IMB president must be one who can honor our heritage, build on an incredible foundation, and drive our missions focus forward in a compelling way for this new era.

Those who know David Platt believe enthusiastically believe God has set aside as the man to lead us,often quoting his passion and urgency for missions:

“What is it going to take for the concept of unreached peoples to become totally intolerable for us?”

“We are settling for a Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of Christianity is actually abandoning ourselves.”

“We have taken the command of Christ to go, baptize, and teach all nations, and contorted it into a comfortable call to come, be baptized, and sit in one location.”

“The Great Commission, and our global Great Commission responsibilities, are the urgent concern of all of us.” -David Platt

Lets us be a church in prayer for David, his family, and his new role. In a day when the upcoming generations are wary of institutions and question why cooperation together is part of the eternal purposes of God in Christ; may God use our new IMB president to build larger bridges of cooperation and partnership for the sake of the Gospel.
