Heather Douglas  ( )
Minister to Children

Heather Douglas, or “Miss Heather” as she is known to the children, joined the AdventureLand Ministry team in January 2006. Heather came to faith as a child, and she desires to lead children into a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ. She began teaching children as a youth, and First Baptist Church of Katy licensed her to ministry in 2001. She received her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Asbury College in Kentucky, and she earned her Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2002. With the AdventureLand team, Heather provides guidance and leadership to all the activities available to children at Sagemont Church including Sunday mornings, AWANA, Triple A, Playschool, special events, and other programming throughout the year. Heather’s commitment is to provide a safe, fun and encouraging environment for children to grow spiritually and to reach families who do not yet have a church home. She also seeks to support and partner with families as they guide the spiritual development of their children. Heather and her husband, John Douglas, were married in April 2006.


Kaye Boelsche  ( )
Green Wing Coordinator 2 & 3 year olds

Kaye Boelsche serves in our AdventureLand Children’s Ministry as the part-time Coordinator for Two’s and Three’s. Kaye began attending Sagemont Church in 1967 with her family; and she feels very blessed to have been raised by godly parents who made it a point to attend and serve at Sagemont Church. Kaye has served in many areas of Children’s Ministry as a volunteer including the Bus Ministry, missions programs and Vacation Bible School. Kaye currently volunteers in AWANA as the Cubbies Director. As the Coordinator for Two’s and Three’s, Kaye works with families to make sure their preschoolers are in the right class and with teachers to make sure they have everything they need for Sunday mornings. Kaye and her husband Randy met at Sagemont and married in 1991; and they are the proud parents of Jacob and Grace.
 


Cyndy Butcher  ( )
Associate of Creative Arts

Miss Cyndy brings energy, excitement and creativity to the AdventureLand ministry! She desires to lead children to discover and use their gifts to worship and serve God. She joined the staff in May 2006, and she oversees AdventureLand Arts Academy (Triple A), the fine arts program for children on Sunday evenings. As an associate in the Children’s Ministry, she also provides leadership and guidance to all other activities for children including Hang Time, Crosswalk, VBS, and more. A member of Sagemont since 1977, Cyndy served in the Worship and Praise Ministry for seven years. In addition, she was active in AdventureLand for three years, leading the Hang Time Dance Team, directing the Choreography track of Triple A, and leading worship in Hang Time. She brings over ten years of experience as a dance student and instructor to her position. Cyndy lives in Clear Lake with her husband of 19 years, Bob Butcher. She is a devoted mother to sons, Alex and Ben, and daughter, Christina.


Amanda Cargile  ( )
Yellow Wing Coordinator for Pre K - 1st Grade

Amanda Cargile has grown up in Southeast Houston and Sagemont Church. From her own positive experience at Sagemont, Amanda knows the difference that loving teachers can make in the life of a child! Amanda loves working with children, and she is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in elementary education. As AdventureLand Coordinator for Fours, Kindergarten and First Grade, she currently oversees the Sunday morning ministry to these ages. Amanda’s responsibilities include preparing curriculum, teaching materials, and snacks for 23 classes; managing the Yellow Wing resource rooms; enlisting and training leaders and teachers; and securing substitutes. Amanda and her husband, Charlie, were married in December 2005, at Walt Disney World.
 


Cherry Childers  ( )
AdventureLand Ministry Associate

Cherry Childers, or Miss Cherry as she is known to the children, joined the AdventureLand Staff in December 2007. Cherry dedicated her life to Christ at age seven, and she was called to ministry at age 18. She has been pouring herself into the lives of children ever since. Cherry joined her first church staff in 1990 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she served until she felt God’s call to move and serve in the Houston area in 2002. Ms. Cherry loves going abroad to teach and share God’s love with children in other countries, but God has shown her that the greatest mission field is our very own backyard because there are so many children who need God’s love and direction. Cherry’s desire is to help parents understand the importance of raising children in a godly home and to provide them with the tools to do so. Ms. Cherry oversees the Sunday Morning Welcome Team in AdventureLand, special events throughout the year such as Baby Dedication, Lunch Bunches, Wild Week Camp, and Christmas Festival, and many other special projects. In her free time, you will find her with a paint brush in her hand as she directs Triple A’s Art track. Ms. Cherry is married, and her husband, Ken, is active in worship at Sagemont and owns his own business. They are the proud parents of three children: Randa (married to Brook), Tyler, and Katrina. She also has an adorable grandson named Aysnn.


 

Dawn Claunch  ( )
Children’s Ministry
Secretary/Receptionist

When you enter the AdventureLand Offices, the first person you’re likely to encounter is Dawn Claunch. One of our AdventureLand Ministry Secretaries, Dawn also serves as our ministry receptionist. Additionally, her responsibilities include taking reservations for child care, baby dedication, etc.; making and issuing scan cards; ordering office supplies; providing secretarial support for Growing Kids God’s Way; preparing AdventureLand Ministry correspondence; and setting up for Tuesday morning Cut-Ups. A member of Sagemont Church since 1989, Dawn has been a part of our team for almost two years. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, and she loves seeing the kids! Dawn and her husband, Doug, have two children still living at home: Jacob (15) and Michael (7). They are the proud grandparents of Madison (3), Katie (3), and Ryan (ten weeks).
 


Traci Fort  ( )
Assistant to the Children’s Minister

Serving for the past six years as one of our AdventureLand Ministry Secretaries, Traci Fort brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her position. As assistant to the AdventureLand Minister, she is responsible for publicity in the churchwide publications, layout and design of most promotional pieces, coordination of Sunday morning curriculum, etc. Traci also lends secretarial support to our two major summer events, Preteen Camp and Vacation Bible School. In addition, she oversees registration and facilitation of the Kids’ Discovery Zone, our special class designed for 1st–6th graders who are asking questions about salvation and/or being baptized. Traci developed her love for children’s ministry very early—she was nine years old when sister, Tammy, served as Children’s Ministry Secretary at Houston’s First Baptist Church! Traci and her daughter, Julianna (12), have been members of Sagemont Church since 1998.
 


Teresa Gill  ( )
Childcare Ministry Team Leader

Teresa Gill and her husband, Keith, have two boys, Samuel and Noah. A member of Sagemont Church since 1990, she met her husband in the Singles Ministry in 1995. With a Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education, Teresa taught in public school for 19 years. She currently serves as a Team Leader for childcare. Teresa’s specialty is schoolagers, but she has taught all ages including adults. She also teaches the music and movement class for our Playschool program. In addition, she works at Johnson’s Space Center’s on-site childcare as the movement and sign language teacher. Teresa enjoys collecting children’s books and toys. Her pastime interest is photography.

 


Louise Locatelli  ( )
Blue Wing and Childcare Coordinator

Louise Locatelli has lived in Houston her entire life. Married to Sam for 36 years, they have two married children: a son who lives in Arizona and a daughter who lives in Humble. The Locatelli’s have been members of Sagemont Church since 1981, and Louise has been working in the nursery for over 18 years. As one of our AdventureLand Ministry Coordinators, Louise supervises all of our paid childcare workers; and on Sunday mornings, she oversees the classes of children, birth–23 months. She loves preschoolers! In her spare time, Louise enjoys traveling with family and friends. Her favorite places to visit are Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada.
 


Amy Mitchell  ( )
Playschool Director

Amy Mitchell has been a member of Sagemont Church since 1982, and she joined the AdventureLand Staff in 2002. Amy currently serves as the Playschool Director for our weekly preschool education program. She leads our team of gifted and committed teachers who minister to preschoolers two days per week. Her responsibilities include supervision of staff, assisting teachers with lesson plans, scheduling, administrative tasks and working with parents. Amy is married to Keith, and they have two daughters, Maura and Ellie Kate.



 


Sara Mullins  ( )
Assistant Playschool Director

Sara Mullins is the Assistant Director for the Playschool Program, our weekday ministry to preschoolers. Before assuming her current position, Sara served as a teacher in Playschool and the childcare ministry for two years. Her responsibilities include bookkeeping, maintaining class records, and supervising supply requests, purchase orders, teacher reimbursements, the monthly calendar and the Scholastic book orders. She also assists teachers and parents as needed. Sara and her husband, Jimmy, joined the Sagemont family in 2003, and they have two beautiful girls, Jamie and Lanie.


 


Georjean Nixon  ( )
AWANA & Finance Secretary

For the past 15 months, Georjean Nixon has served as one of our AdventureLand Ministry Secretaries. She is specifically responsible for all of the finances and calendaring for the entire AdventureLand Ministry. As you can imagine, this can be quite overwhelming at times; but Georjean does a great job of multi-tasking. In addition, she lends secretarial support to AWANA, which averages over 400 children, students, and adults each week during the school year. Georjean’s attention to detail is second to none, and she has an incredible servant’s heart. A member of Sagemont Church for 35 years, Georjean is a member of the Worship Choir and sings on the Worship & Praise Ministry’s Praise Team. She and her husband, Mike, have two grown children, Brandon Nixon and wife, Nikki, and Neisha Teer and husband, Dave. Georjean and Mike are also the very proud grandparents of Zane, Reese, and Eden Nixon and Meliya Teer.


Chris Patrick  ( )
AdventureLand Ministry Associate

Chris Patrick joined Sagemont Church in 2004, and he volunteered with four-year-olds for several years. In 2008, he joined the AdventureLand staff, and his primary responsibilities are the large group worship times known as HangTime and The Bridge. Chris also facilitates activities and programs for 5th and 6th grade including Transit and monthly Bridge Bashes, and he supervises most media or video endeavors in AdventureLand. He received his Bachelors degree in Botany in 1993 from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana, and went on to earn his Masters in Biological Science in 1995 with an emphasis in Environmental Science. During his thesis program he obtained a patent associated with microbial agent acquisition and identification, and he had an article published in a major scientific journal that dealt with his work on host pathogens. Chris met his wife, Donna, in college, and they were married in 1992. They presently have two wonderful daughters, Madison and Macy, along with a host of animals who might as well be considered part of their family.


Erolyn Robbins  ( )
Childcare Ministry Team Leader

Erolyn Robbins has been a member at Sagemont since 1981. She and Ralph, her husband of 40 years, have two sons and two grandsons. While Erolyn is the newest member of the childcare leadership team, she has been working with children for over 40 years. She keeps the nursery wheels spinning with behind-the-scenes work like purchasing, organization, and upkeep. Erolyn enjoys, and is fantastic at, sewing and quilting.



 


Mary Rodriguez  ( )
Child Care Ministry Team Leader

Mary Rodriguez has been a childcare team leader since 2003. She and her husband, Abel, have three beautiful daughters: Anabelle, Rebecca, and Olivia. Possessing a passion for children, Mary earned her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development. One of her job responsibilities is creating curriculum for Wednesday, Sunday, and Friday night childcare. Mary hosts a Bible study for the childcare workers at her home so they, too, can be spiritually fed. Her favorite hobby is photography.
 


 


Carrie Scott  ( )
Red Wing Coordinator for 2nd – 4th Grade

Overseeing our Sunday morning ministry to two- and three-year-olds is AdventureLand Ministry Coordindator, Carrie Scott. A member of Sagemont Church since 1988, she joined our staff 17 months ago. Carrie’s responsibilities include preparing the curriculum and materials used by our volunteers with 2s and 3s on Sunday mornings, worker enlistment, purchasing, and preparing snacks for the boys and girls each week. Her favorite thing about her job is the people with whom she serves and the kids. She is a worker bee who enjoys looking for ways to improve things. In addition to Carrie’s responsibilities at work, she also homeschools her children. Carrie’s family includes husband, Patrick, and children, Andrea (24), Gary (17), Jamie (15), and Erin (13).
 


Shanda Terry  ( )
Refuge Pre-Teen Coordinator for 5th & 6th Grade

Fun, hip and full of energy, Shanda Terry is the Coordinator for the Preteen Refuge Ministry to 5th and 6th grade students. She and her husband, Stephen, have been members of Sagemont Church since 1998. Before joining the staff in 2006, Shanda taught 6th grade girls for three years. Shanda leads the volunteers who teach on a weekly basis, and she is committed to the discipleship of preteens. She is married to Stephen Terry, and together, they have three children: Tyler (November 95). Ethan (February 03), Emma (March 04).
