Rick and Brenda Spencer were evacuees to Houston during the Katrina storm. After living in Houston for about a month, they moved back to their undamaged home in the New Orleans area. But after 6 months, they realized that basic groceries and supplies were not available. Most importantly, medical services were also not available for their special needs daughter. The family needed to relocate, and Rick’s company allowed them to transfer to the Houston area. After transferring to Deep Park, Brenda searched the Internet for a church with special needs Bible study class. Sagemont’s Promiseland class was at the top of the list. After visiting, they realized that God had provided not only a church home for their daughter, but also for 19 year old son to play guitar in the Awaken service and the Blend service for themselves.

In September of 2008 after Hurricane Ike did it’s damage to the Gulf Coast/Houston area of Texas, several people were displaced by storm damage to their homes. Many were not able to clean or organize their homes. Sagemont Church sent a Helping Hands team to the home of Treva Douglas and Helped her to clean her home and dispose of damaged furniture, carpeting and sheet rock.

Over 20 years ago, Executive Pastor, Chuck Schneider asked Duane Lewis to begin a chemical dependency group to help church members deal with the difficulty of getting off of alcohol & drugs. Duane and His wife were looking for a new place of service and this was an answer to their vision for the same thing. We also speak with Chris Fowles on how he went through the Right Step program to deal with his dependency on meth.

Dr. LeRoy Skip Smith is the Associate Pastor of Membership at Sagemont. Dr. Skip has been in the ministry for over 60 years now and through those years of experience, he’s learned about the importance of spiritual protection. Not just the spiritual protection needed by those in the ministry but especially those of us who face the struggles of everyday life. His wise teaching has helped pastors, missionaries in many countries and people who work every day in our city.

Andre' Johnson was in prison 27 years out of his 54. He had a life of wrong decisions and choices. It took being sent to the prison hospital and a visit from a volunteer giving him a Bible to force him to evaluate his life and make a change.

Mary Barrionuevo is a single mom, divorced 2 years ago after being married for 16 years. She describes her struggles of dealing with her everyday life. She also tells about her relationship with Jesus Christ and how He has carried her.

Galen Crawford thought that he was basically a good man. He had no real need for God or no real hate for God either. But as he went through life, Galen began to feel inadequate to the task. He felt that he could be a better husband and father. He really didn’t know what was missing until his brother Darwin invited him and his son to a father/son retreat.
As the weekend went on, Galen realized that many in the group had something that he didn’t. Galen began a journey of discovery to find what he didn’t have.
