Our
class ranges from 60 years up. We
have several nearing 90 years old.
We’re like a family of 26 members
who are a close-knit group. We are
there for one another through
trials, sickness, and death of
spouses and loved ones.
Hiram Woosley has been the director
for about 10 years. He was
previously the men’s teacher for 30
years. The men and women are now
combined, and Barbara Woosley is our
teacher. We study the “Explore the
Bible” series; and we are currently
studying Hebrews. The lesson is not
a lecture, but the members are given
a chance to ask questions, make
comments, etc. We recently had a
40-year-old man bring his mother;
and after sitting in on the class,
he said he’d never enjoyed a Bible
study so much and if we didn’t care
he’d like to come back. The next
Sunday, he brought his wife, too.
We normally have socials every six
weeks, and try to make each one
special by always decorating with a
theme, etc. One of our men cooks for
all of our monthly socials. We have
our socials on Saturday afternoons
due to the fact that some of the
members don’t drive after dark.
We have groups and leaders of the
groups. One group goes to a nursing
home and ministers. One group takes
care of our homebound.
We always keep our members informed
of all the activities of the church.
We were so pleased when 20 of them
boarded the buses and went to the
Reliant Arena for our 40th
Anniversary. In fact, our department
won first place in the contest. They
went all out for it.
December 9th will be our Christmas
social (this is to be determined).
Our people are almost 100% in
filling the shoe boxes for Operation
Christmas Child for Samaritan’s
Purse. They are also good about
giving to our three mission
offerings.
