Blended
families have complex dynamics which
cause many families serious
problems. This class focuses on
lessons and activities that address
these issues and how they can best
be handled. These lessons are based
on the Bible and sound psychological
principles. There is ample
opportunity for questions and in
fact, they are encouraged.
The class has a “share time” where
we get to know each other better and
how we can better help each other.
The teachers are also in blended
families, so they teach from
personal experience as well as
training. The teachers are Jerry
Linquester, Jim Laucher, and Dixon
Murrah. Dixon Murrah, the lead
teacher, is a minister and a
marriage and family therapist. He
developed the Counseling Ministry
here at Sagemont and directed it for
15 years. Jim Laucher is a minister
and currently serves on the
Counseling Ministry Staff here at
Sagemont. Jerry Linquester is a
layman who is very active in a
number of various church ministries.
The Blended Families Class is made
up of couples who have been married
anywhere from a month to 30 years.
Most couples have children ranging
in age from six years to 50 years
old. So, the ages of the couples
range from young to senior. From
time to time a couple may decide to
bring one or more of their children
to class with them. These children
are normally in their teens, but
that is not a requirement.
