BIBLE
STUDY
Couples
Class: Led by Steve
Hawkes, this class is studying
the book of Genesis. Since
Genesis details the creation and
delivery of the first covenants
with mankind, it forms the
foundation for the Bible and
paints a vivid picture of God's
progressive revelation of
Himself. Many of these
revelations deal with symbols
and promises of a type of
permanent Redeemer of
man--fulfilled in New Testament
account of Jesus' birth.
If you ever wondered about 1)
origins of Mideastern ethnic
groups, 2) origins of conflict
between Judaism/Christianity and
Islam, 3) origins of the
sacrificial system practiced
under the first covenant, 4) how
God used imperfect people to
accomplish his perfect plan, or
5) a myriad of other concerns
you may have on the foundations
of the Christian Faith, then
come join us as we digest this
most important Old Testament
Book. This study will conclude
the last week of May 2008, and
the class will then begin a
study of Acts.
Ladies
Class: Taught by
Maxine Sevier, the Ladies’ Class
is currently studying the book
of Genesis, the foundation for
all other books of the Bible.
Along with the history of God’s
creation of the universe, we see
how God’s greatest creation,
mankind, fell short of
perfection from the very
beginning. These imperfections
of mankind trigger lively
discussions of the relevancy of
this ancient book in today’s
life. The applications are
endless. This class also focuses
on ministry to one another as
well as outreach to visitors and
the community. If you’re looking
for a warm, loving group of
ladies, you’ll find them here.
All ages are welcome. At the
conclusion of the study of
Genesis in May, the class will
begin the book of Acts in June.
Men’s
Class: With Wayne
Hanks teaching, this class began
a foundational study titled “A
Two Year Journey Through God’s
Word” in October 2007. Members
read ten chapters each week, and
have a structured open
discussion on what has been read
each Sunday. (Click
here for the reading schedule.)
The class will be looking for
the unifying theme of the Bible,
Jesus Christ, from Genesis to
Revelation. Bible teachers of
the past said there is a
scarlet
thread through the
Bible, and the class will follow
that thread. Charles Haddon
Spurgeon, when asked how he
prepared a message from the Old
Testament, replied “that he
studied and prayed until he
found Jesus in the passage and
then preached Jesus.” Men of all
ages are invited to participate
as we read and study God’s Word.
PRAYER
We
believe strongly in the power of
prayer, maintain an active
prayer list, and are dedicated
to daily prayer for each other
and for current needs. Prayer
lets us in on what God is doing,
and gives Him an opportunity to
speak to us!
FELLOWSHIP
We
are known for our Sunday Morning
Brunches with a variety of
delicacies and coffee; and have
regular department socials at
Valentines, Thanksgiving,
Christmas and other special
times organized by the Socials
Coordinator.
MINISTRIES
The
ministry of the Soul Survivors
department includes members and
their families, retired pastors
through a church fund, nursing
homes, and women’s shelters. On
occasion other ministries are
addressed on an “as needed”
basis.
